Alligator Pie, alligator pie
If I don’t get some I think I’m gonna die.
Give away the green grass, give away the sky,
But don’t give away my alligator pie.
-an excerpt from the poem “Alligator Pie” by Dennis Lee
I had the pleasure of sitting down with business woman extraordinaire Catherine Medak, owner and buyer for Alligator Pie Kidswear in Edmonton. Catherine always had a passion for fashion and opened this destination shop downtown in 1987 when the selection of quality children’s clothes was hard to find. The store was named after one of her favorite children’s poems “Alligator Pie” by Canadian author Dennis Lee. A year later she welcomed her son Taylor into the world, and the rest as they say is history.
Alligator Pie specializes in designer children’s clothing and accessories from newborn to age 16. Some of the coveted brands they carry are Hugo Boss, Lacoste, True Religion, DKNY, Deux par deux, Lili Gaufrette (a gorgeous french line for girls) and of course the much sought after Burberry which is exclusive to their boutique. Many of her customers comment on the amazing selection of clothing options especially for boys, which as a mother of two boys myself, can be a struggle. The store itself is immaculate with everything perfectly folded and organized making your shopping experience a pleasure. The quality of the items they carry is exceptional. I purchased a Burberry dress shirt for my son when he was 12 months old and it looks just like the day I bought it now 5 years later.
School is back in session in less than one month. Alligator Pie just received 25 boxes of new fall clothing and is currently having an amazing sale on spring and summer items at 30-50% off! There is something special about back to school clothes. Having the right outfit is key and Catherine and her friendly staff are styling experts. This is a great time to get down there and stock up on all your back to school needs at a great price.
This boutique store will be celebrating 25 years in business in November. 25 years…that is exceptional!! Catherine attributes her success and longevity in business to her hands on approach. She knows many of her customers by name and finds it truly rewarding to meet the second generation of customers visiting her store. Catherine also believes in giving back. She is extremely proud to be a part of Fashion with Compassion for a 3rd straight year. This red carpet affair supports Compassion House Foundation who provide a home away from home for those travelling to Edmonton for breast cancer treatment.
To help celebrate this amazing milestone in business and the return of back to school, I am offering free child sessions to all Alligator Pie customers who purchase $50 or more during the month of August. (A $100 value!) Back to school doesn’t have to mean back to school pictures :) The store is conveniently located at 10180 101 street and is now open every day of the week. Head down to Alligator Pie and experience personalized service you can only receive at a boutique store such as this.
